The style of our 10 Minute Documentary will involve camera techniques such as the use of short depth of field, in order to make the cinematography the best it can be. This will allow the audience to focus on aspects such as the tattoos in more detail. I think colour will definitely be a vital element in the piece, as it will be bright and vivid throughout due to the mise-en-scene. Below is some examples of my own photographs that demonstrate the use of short depth of field and a high contrast in colours.
I would like the style of our piece to be represented through the atmosphere of the studio, which is something that already has it's own unique design:

Documentaries such as 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' form a great reference when thinking about the approach we will take when filming. I think that this has allowed me to understand that it is ok to involve subtle humour into a piece and use hand held (as long as it isn't overdone).
When it comes to sound, I understand that it will be hard to gain clear interviews due to the obvious background noise of music and tattoo guns. I will have to do my best to reduce this noise using Soundtrack Pro, however it is inevitable that it will still be present. Although this could become fairly annoying, it does give the film a sense of space and adds to the casual style. I think that if the sound of interview dialogue was too 'pure', it would detract from the environment and make the audience slightly detached from the film.
As for music, when I entered the studio for the first time, I noticed that a lot of the music on their radio was of the 'blues' genre, something that I think is unexpected when looking at the visuals. I am therefore unsure as to stick to this style of music for both diegetic and non-diegetic elements, or whether to stick to the conventions and what I think is predictable 'rap' style of music. I think that it would be interesting to be unconventional with the music and stick to the original feel and mood of the studio.
Example of the style of music played in the 'Follow Your Dreams' tattoo studio.
