Editing

When it came to editing the exercise, we decided to keep the original concept of having black and white slow motion whenever you could see the buskers mouth move. This focuses the viewers attention and also provides a nice abstract style to the film. The footage of the busker performing was made up of five songs. We had shots of him playing these songs from numerous angles and editing was a case of choosing which ones worked best together. Although I was weary putting more than one song into such a short piece of film, I am glad that we did because other wise it may have seemed like a music video - something that we really wanted to avoid!

Something that we really wanted to use more was our footage of people walking past the busker, as this proves how he is unnoticed the majority of the time. We ideally wanted this sped up to demonstrate the length of time he had been there. However, when we did this on Final Cut, lines appeared and it seemed quite jumpy. This was not visually pleasing at all, and I feel that leaving it at the original speed wasn't an option, as it would have meant the film lost it's pace.We colour corrected various shots to make sure that all of the film flowed well.
Overall, it has only taken us about 3 days to edit, and given the limited time we had, I am happy with the result. Obviously I feel as though many aspects could have been improved, but there was little we could have done about this, other than giving up on the original busker earlier.

When it came to the sound editing, I wanted it to sound less 'pure' as though it was recorded in a studio. To get around this, we overlaid an atmos track recorded from the same environment. As well as this, some reverb was added. This was done to give the sound a sense of space, and make it more realistically fit with it's setting.
